When you first read the lavender note, you might mistakenly think this is a fresh, calming scent—quite the opposite, actually. It’s more like the damp driftwood you’d find in a swamp, perhaps cypress trees in the mire—specifically, bald cypress, which few realize thrive there. They grow in the wet, swampy soils of floodplain lakes and along riparian corridors.
There was once a canary, and even when her feathers were soaked, her face smudged with mud, she still believed this was her final safe haven...home.
Lavender and lemon verbena were merely the scents of their shared past, or promises that now seem all too fragile.
